There is no me. I do not exist. There used to be a me, but I had it surgically removed.

We live in NE Oklahoma, a couple hours from Joplin.

Today was our last day of school (Sweet Wife is a kindergarten teacher), and now we are on our way to her hometown in Michigan for her little brothers HS grad. We were just passing thru…

I lived in Joplin for a couple years when I was in elementary school. The house & neighborhood where we lived is ok, but much of heart of the town is just gone. Obliterated.

It’s apocalyptic. Complete devastation. But there are people everywhere. In their yards, walking down the street…

We must have seen 20 or more different law enforcement and ambulance departments. There are large coolers and pallets of bottled water at intersections. Traffic is a mess, but everyone remains courteous (or still in shock).

We felt like we were intruding. Like we needed to get out of the way, so we didn’t dawdle.

I think if we really want to do something is do not forget these folks. Wait a couple months and give blood & contribute to your charity of choice. These folks have a long fucking road to recovery and will continue to need our support.
